Medialounge presents Sodaplay Transfigured, a projected installation
showing a selection of animated models submitted by users around
the globe who have used the Sodaconstructor interface to fill
the Sodaplay database with over half a million objects.
Sodaconstructor is an online
multi-user tool for constructing animated objects and applying
physical forces such as gravitational pull, springs and friction.
The objects created are often delicate, beautiful and enigmatic,
dancing, bouncing or stumbling across the screen. The animations
are kept in a database and can be retrieved later, creating a
global community of participants.
Transfigured's constantly changing
gallery of models is displayed in a software application that
animates models in a never-repeating random sequence. Visitors
to the exhibition will be able to create their own models and
add them to the
database using computers in the Medialounge.
Transfigured was first commissioned
by the Australian Centre of the Moving Image, Melbourne, Australia,
2003. [www.acmi.net.au]
